Regional policy of the European Union has to deal with many structural problems. The most significant is the increase of social and economic disparities between member states and its regions. Enlargement of the European Community has constantly posed a challenge not only for deepening the integration process, but also because of growing regional disparities between regions and EU countries. Each enlargement process has led to an increase in regional disparities in the structure of the European Community. The aim of this paper is therefore to analyse the impact and implications of enlargement for the shape of its regional policy.
Regionálna politika Európskej únie musí v súčasnosti riešiť mnohé štrukturálne problémy, pričom najvýznamnejším je nárast sociálnych a ekonomických disparít medzi jednotlivými členskými štátmi a regiónmi. Rozširovanie Európskeho Spoločenstva, neskôr Európskej únie, predstavovalo a neustále predstavuje výzvu nielen pre prehlbovanie integračného procesu, ale aj pre narastajúce regionálne rozdiely medzi jednotlivými regiónmi a štátmi EÚ. Každé rozšírenie totiž viedlo k zväčšeniu disparít v regionálnej štruktúre Európskeho Spoločenstva. Cieľom príspevku je preto analyzovať vplyv a dopady rozširovania na podobu jej regionálnej politiky.
